Growing up along a tributary of the Los Angeles River, Peter turned his childhood interest in water and weather into a 48-year career as a hydrogeographer- a blend of his academic education in hydrology, geology, and geography. He has dedicated his career to better management of California’s water resources in order to restore and maintain healthy aquatic environments for people and place. His work focused on the San Francisco Bay-Delta watershed and the Mono Lake and the Owens Valley watersheds. He is a principal in the 46-year ongoing and largely successful effort to restore flow to Mono Lake and its tributary streams; he is also a principal for the past 26-years in the ongoing effort to restore water, salmon and people to the San Joaquin River. His current work includes assisting the effort to restore flow to the Kern River through Bakersfield. Early in his career Peter was a principal researcher on the California Water Atlas.
